New to Birmingham, or moving here soon? Or, maybe like a lot of folks, you've been cooped up at home for a couple years waiting for the pandemic to go away. Well, now's the time to get out and try our all-time five favorite places to eat.

Bottega Cafe: We enjoy going there for lunch on Saturdays and having the focaccia with Bottega infused olive oil. It's so simple, but so amazing! I like to get to get a fish sandwich and Suzanne usually gets a salad or a hamburger. You can close your eyes and point at the menu.  You can't go wrong! Great architecture and atmosphere. The cafe doesn't take reservations. So, go a little early or try eating at the bar.

Gianmarcos: Authentic italian food in a quaint location in Homewood. Fresh ingredients, expertly prepared! I always go with one of the specials. This little piece of heaven books early, so call a week or so before and secure reservations.

El Barrio: Situated on 2nd Avenue North in the heart of Birmingham's growing urban restaurant scene, El Barrio offers innovative mexican dishes with fresh, locally sourced  ingredients. It's a happening place and they don't take reservations! But, I've heard the wait seems shorter when enjoying their margaritas.

Bettola: Located in the Lakeview District on Southside, Bettola is a "casual upscale" restaurant featuring wood fired pizzas and dishes featuring their house-made pastas. We recommend the burrata and/or the marinated olives to get started. Then, I'd recommend the Bucatini Carbonara or the Oven Roasted Gulf Fish. Suzanne love their salads and their pizzas.

Chuck's Fish: Chuck's is located just off Hwy 280 near Greystone. It's a small restaurant and bar that feels like you're at the beach. Maybe that's because, Chuck's is affiliated with a couple of Destin restaurants and they only serve seafood caught from their own fishing boats.  The seafood and sushi are always fresh. The steaks are great too!

We  hope you enjoy trying our favorite Birmingham restaurants! And, we'd love to hear about yours!
